Surgical assisting

We assist in theatre with selected orthopaedic surgeons across the Sunshine Coast and South East Queensland. The arrangement supports continuity of care: the same specialist in the consulting room, in theatre, and during recovery.

We assist in theatre with selected orthopaedic surgeons on the Sunshine Coast, supporting continuity of care from pre-op clinic review through surgery and recovery. The same specialist who saw you in clinic before surgery, and who will see you for return-to-sport review afterwards, can be in theatre during the operation itself.

Why a specialist sports doctor in theatre

Continuity matters in surgical recovery. When the same physician sees you in clinic, in theatre, and through rehabilitation, decisions about post-operative load, imaging, and return to sport are informed by direct knowledge of what happened during the surgery. The surgeon retains primary responsibility for the surgical work; the sports physician contributes the broader rehabilitation context.

Surgical assisting in theatre is a defined medical role with its own responsibilities, governed by the relevant clinical and credentialling standards.

For surgeons and patients

If you are an orthopaedic surgeon interested in arrangements for surgical assisting, or a patient asking whether your specialist sports doctor can be part of the surgical pathway, please contact the clinic via the referrers page.
